A decision by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh to mandate nameplates on shops along the Kanwar Yatra route has sparked significant political controversy. Opposition leaders and allies, including Congress MP from Saharanpur Imran Masood, have expressed strong disapproval. Masood criticized the move, stating, "The question is not of name but of hatred. Hatred cannot run in the country." He further commented on the Yogi government's decision, suggesting it could lead to further division based on religion and caste, which he believes is detrimental to the nation's unity.

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief and Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary also opposed the mandate, arguing that the Kanwar Yatra and its participants should not be associated with any specific religion or caste. Chaudhary questioned the practicality of the decision and criticized the government's lack of thoughtful consideration. Masood went a step further, advising Chaudhary to resign from the government if he held any remaining moral integrity, emphasizing that mere statements would not suffice in opposing such policies.
